About Us
Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) was one of the first churches in the Edgewater Community, and, while of German heritage, elected to conduct all services in English. We are a family of baptized believers in Christ in a conservative, traditional Lutheran congregation. We believe the Bible is the true word of God, preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and hold that salvation is available only by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
Now blessed, as an architectural landmark, Bethany began as a storefront congregation in 1906. We made our presence in the neighborhood permanent in the early 1900’s with the construction of a sanctuary and two other buildings.
We have a definite commitment to each other and to the community. Since our inception, we have used a strong music program as a celebration of faith, through this and other ministries, we seek to support each other in God’s word and to bring the teachings of Jesus to others.
Dedicated members and leaders look forward to taking Bethany into the future as a strong and viable presence in the community. We will continue to share the word of God with each other and bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others as we deal with change in our multi-ethnic neighborhood.
